DUST COLLECTION SYSTEMS IN FLAMMABLE AND EXPLOSIVE DUST
There are many types of flammable and explosive dust. Explosions occur when finely divided dust of the correct concentration is suspended in air and exposed to an adequate source of ignition. A dust collector, by its operation, captures a cloud of finely divided particles suspended in the air. If an ignition source initiates the combustion of the dust cloud, the gases in the cloud expand rapidly due to the heat generated during combustion. If this expansion takes place inside the dust collection unit, the sudden increase in pressure will cause a severe rupture. When dust particles are known to be flammable, precautionary measures and appropriate protection must be provided to reduce the risk of property damage and personal injury. If it is not known whether the dust is flammable-explosive or not, analysis must be done.
Some of the Potentially Explosive Dusts
ATEX certified explosion cap filter must be used in units with explosive dust, it must be ensured that the filter can protect its structure in case of explosion.
It is not enough to attach an explosion cap to any filter unit. It should be ensured that the installed cover is functional and that the filter can protect its structure in case of a possible explosion.
In applications where dust has explosive properties, it is not sufficient to take precautions only in the filter. In the event of such an explosion, the explosion occurring in the filter recoils to the operation and a situation called Secondary Explosion takes place. Secondary Explosion can cause great material damage, especially loss of life. Explosion-guiding equipment should definitely be used to prevent the explosion from rebounding into the business. The most important of these is the isolation valve.
